2008 has just about come to a close. I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of glad! It's been one of the rougher years for me as well as plenty of Americans. I lost my dear Grandmother and there have been some losses and setbacks in Brian's family as well this year. Most of us are feeling this economic downturn in some way or another, but enough about the bad stuff! Let's take a moment to be grateful for what good came this year as well:
Democrat or Republican, I think we can all agree that this election year was a long time coming and now we can all look forward to a different type of government than what we've experienced for the past 8 years. Hooray!!
We've already met our newest niece, Leila and we're impatiently waiting on another nephew and yet another niece come February. I also have a cousin on the Masengarb side of my family that is expecting the first baby of his generation in our small family in February! February 2009 is going to be a busy month!
I'm currently about to begin the last semester of my Bachelor of Science degree and it really couldn't be more exciting for me. I've been looking forward to this for quite some time.
Brian has decided to try out a path as an EMT and will be taking a course this semester as well. I am hopeful that this is the right path for him and if not, there's always the Marines! :)
We couldn't be more appreciative and thankful for all the wonderful people we have in our lives. This year more than any other we've experienced their love, kindness and hospitality. I only hope that in 2009 we'll be able to return the favor!
Here's to a joyful and prosperous 2009! Cheers!

I like what you have to say. I think it definitely has been a year to learn from. Going forward, the economy taught us that we had better live within our means or else! And everyone would be foolish not to be prepared for tough times.
The death and birth has definitely taken it's place this year in our families too. Here is a cool Emily Dickinson poem about the trade off of new/old life:
A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period --
When March is scarcely here
A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.
It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.
Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay --
A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.
Jason just loves Emily Dickinson!
Despite the ups and downs of 2008, I think you guys weathered it well and I'm sure 2009 will bring good things for your family. I mean hello, graduation, that is reason enough that 2009 is going to be great!!
