Marines?

Lately, Brian and I have been doing a lot of research about the Marines. From what he has told me, this is a path that he is excited to be embarking upon. I never thought that I would actually be ok with anyone that I care about joining the military, let alone my own husband. However, the more people with family members in the military that I talk to, have nothing, but good things to say about it.

We are definitely at a point in our lives where we are looking for some change and some stability and this would undoubtedly give us both of those things. Brian is very interested in the career aspect of the Marines and specifically their mechanics programs.

As I do not have anyone in my living family that is or has been in the military, I don't really know what to expect. Brian has asked for my support in this and I will be doing all that I can to be that support that he needs. I have nothing, but the utmost respect for the men and women that are in the military and defending our right to freedom every single day. I couldn't be more proud of my husband for wanting to do his part. As scary as it sounds to have him go overseas without me for months at a time, I think this will be good not only for our country, but our family as well. Please share your thoughts with us! We'd love to hear your opinon about this life-changing possibility for us.

I keep rethinking it over and over too. Obviously it would effect you way more than me, but I was definitely a little nervous at first. Once I started thinking about all the possibilities and the opportunities that would undoubtedly open up for you guys, I began thinking maybe it is a good idea. It's definitely very honorable and really helps people find a direction for their life and feel like they are truly part of something worthwhile. It's a big commitment too so I told Bri he really needs to be willing to stay the course. I know he will make the right choice and I'm am totally here for you whenever you need support. Love you!

I've actually been trying to get in to the family support program within the branches of our National Guard.... but the bases are all quite far from me. I also have nothing but respect for these brave men and women. My Dad loved being in the military - and even though he retired, he still has a job on the base (as the family support coordinator of course!). He can't get away! Anyway, I think it's a great opportunity for you guys. Brian would be perfect for the job =)

Instead of going on and on about it and why I think its good for him, I'll just get to the short, sweet point: ship him off!

thanks Jeanette =) It's nice to have the family behind me, it makes me that more sure. I'm going to do this, and i'm going to do it in a way that I may not even be deployed. because i scored so high on this test they have (scored about the 90th percentile) i can go instead to an engineering/mechanic school so i can work on airplanes and tanks. talk about a huge paying job when i'm done.

"hey you want your airplane fixed? got you covered." HAHA

Uh... pretty sure you'll still get deployed.... but at least you won't be on the frontlines.

Joining the Marines is an incredibly admiral (no pun intended ;)) goal and I support you fully in that decision! My roommate and good friend is a mechanic (Army Aviation) and he works on Apache Helicopters all day. He has been deployed twice (Iraq, Afghanistan) and he said he never once even chambered a round or got close to any of the combat. They keep their support personnel VERY well protected as they are critical to mission success over there. I hope that gives you (Karin) some comfort :)

Now making it through the Marines training is a whole 'nother story ;) They hold their people to the absolute strictest standards so make sure you're well-prepared both mentally and physically before signing on the dotted line!
